Its here!  ECO Summer Camp 2008

$170 per week - $15 Registration Fee

FOR INCOMING 1st to OUTGOING 5th GRADERS

Take your pick from 8 wild weeks of the best science curriculum complete with animal interaction taught in a functioning exotic wildlife rescue facility and children’s museum.

"Reptiles Rock!" June 16th - June 20th
Campers will explore the biology of our ectothermic friends.  Reptiles operate very differently than us mammals, and students will identify these characteristics in detail.  Adaptations, habitats, forms of predation,  and anatomy will be observed in our living ECO Station animals.

"Junior ECO Staff" June 23rd - 27th
Hands-on dirty work.  Campers will get to participate in animal care and facility operation.  Your duties include animal enrichment, diet preparation, proper animal handling, and even event planning and management.

"Rainforest Exploration" July 7th - July 11th
Our Rainforests are the hubs of biodiversity having thousands of plant and animal species that exist nowhere else on the planet.  Thousands more are believed to be unidentified.  Campers will learn about the various microhabitats that make up the rainforests, how so many organisms could exist in such poor soil, and what threats our forests face in the future.

"Easy Being Green" July 14th - 18th
Campers will come to understand their role on this planet and what they can do to keep it healthy.  This week of camp is jam packed with ways “to be green” like homemade toy making (recycled rockets!), responsible resource use, where to get local food and products (mmm… tasty), and how to prolong the life of goods.

"Bugs" July 21st - July 25th
Campers will enjoy many aspects of entomology including, arthropod anatomy, exploring venom and poison, bugs as food, bugs as pets, bug wrangling, and invertebrate conservation.   Many live specimens will be observed and maybe even handled.

"Birds" July 28th - August 1st
Calling all bird fans!  Meet our cast of characters.  Attend to all aspects of bird care, and see why these creatures are so high maintenance.  Curriculum is also rich with science concepts like aerodynamics, physics of flight, animal anatomy, rainforest studies, and bird vocalizations.  Ear plugs provided.

"Totally" H2O August 4th - August 8th
Meet and learn all about the aquatic animals (fish, corals, turtles, frogs, salamanders, etc) living at the ECO Station.  Campers will investigate the importance of our local waterways and meet some local animal representatives.  Also, count on a bunch of water related activities to keep you cool in the hottest part of summer.

"Local Wildlife" Meet creatures from the Sacramento Valley and Foothills August 11th -August 15th
Campers will discover local wildlife through exploration and close observation.  They will, learn about local food webs, identify dangerous animals, help with a nocturnal bug collection, and learn how local Native Americans survived in this environment.
